Piss and Vinegar
Somehow I managed to go running this morning. Yesterday was a forced rest-day, I woke up at 5:30, and my body just said no... I still rode the Jeunet to work, but I was very tired. This morning felt like a repeat of yesterday, but when I started in on my jog, I felt pretty strong and had a nice time of it. The Jeunet has been a welcome companion this week, its amazing how much harder it is riding fixed, even with pretty weak 42x16 gearing! Part of it is the total neglect of my health. I don't even want to know how much weight I have gained, I know its too much, and there was no reason for it, other than my own moodiness. For reasons already gone over in too much detail, I just haven't wanted to be happy the last two months, and its been an ugly thing to witness. This morning the piss and vinegar were back, don't ask me why, don't ask me how, I cannot explain it. I'm going to just chalk it up to riding fixed... its the only way to be free.

Lothar, I commend your tenacity for continuing to ride fixed. I don't have it in me. Something about a childhood trauma suffered on my first fixed bike. I liked going fast downhill, but decided at about age 4 that I needed more speed and the best way to get it was to pull the feet off the pedals. You can imagine the rest. No hand brake and no chance in hell of getting my feet back on the whirring pedals landed me in a gravel ditch, da-ditch, da-ditch, da-ditch. Messy.
Anyway, you will be happy to know that I branched out from the Mt. bike quiver and picked up a Kelly Knobby X. I was too much of a sissy to go full roadie, plus I still like being able to roll in the gravel, so it fit. Only had er' a week, but we are getting along fine so far.
